Your Gaming Laptop Isn't Just For Gaming

When you go to buy a new gaming laptop, you look for the graphics card in the first place, in pursuit of a powerful and smooth gaming experience. But contrary to the popular belief that this investment is only for gaming, the gaming laptop that you spent a large amount of money to acquire can do much more important things than helping you spend some quality time gaming.

Gaming laptops, such as the Legion series from Lenovo, are known to have powerful graphics cards. Basically, these cards are a processing unit whose main purpose is to process graphics of all kinds, which are found not only in games, but more in design programs.

For many years, Nvidia has sought to make its cards a powerful tool to help designers get a unique experience with the same cards available to the consumer market so that they get the best experience at the same material value. If you own a gaming laptop with one of the Nvidia cards, you can use it in design and in playing alike.

And because the idea of using graphics cards with design programs is not widespread, we decided to bring you today some tips to make the most of your cards at work or study other than their performance in games.

Use NVIDIA Creator Ready Drivers

Unlike the NVIDIA Game Ready Driver drivers, the American company offers special drivers for designers. These definitions are characterized by more stability and speed when using design programs, as they are tested on the most famous programs before they are released to users, which is reflected in the performance improvement, which ranges between 9% and 12%, once these definitions are used.

These drivers are usually released every month, this way your laptop will be ready every time the design software releases new updates that come about every month, and at the same time your work will not be interrupted as much. It is also well-tested using the most powerful and popular creative design software, such as the Adobe suite, to ensure that the operating system on your device will not face any problems when using this powerful software.

You can make the Studio Drivers update automatically via the GeForce Experience app. If you’d prefer to download it yourself, it’s also available at nvidia.com/drivers.

New updates boost graphics card performance in laptops, and sometimes even new features in creative software, giving artists, creators, and designers better performance from their graphics card and laptops.

Take advantage of GPU Accelerated Apps

Graphics cards can speed up graphics processing thanks to GPU Accelerated Computing technology. This technology simply transfers a large part of the processing operations from the processor to the graphics card, in order to distribute tasks and take advantage of the ability of the graphics cards to carry out processing operations in parallel at the same time.

This technology is highly relied upon in operations related to artificial intelligence, data analysis and complex systems development, but at the same time it can be used in many design applications available.

There is now a huge selection of design applications that support GPU Accelerated Computing. Using these applications with the NVIDIA card that you own guarantees double performance, especially if we compare it with the performance that you get from the graphics units integrated into the processors in laptops.

  • Among those applications:
  • Adobe After Effects
  • Adobe illustrator
  • Adobe Photoshop
  • Adobe Lightroom
  • Adobe Premier Pro
  • Adobe Substance 3D Designer
  • Autodesk 3ds Max
  • Autodesk Arnold
  • Autodesk Revit
  • Blender
  • Cinema 4D
  • Cyberlink PowerDirector
  • Davinci Resovle
  • Lumion
  • Nvidia Iray
  • OBStudio
  • Pixar Renderman
  • Rhino
  • Sketchup
  • Unity
  • Unreal Engine
  • V Ray

Don’t forget to use NVIDIA cards

You may follow all of what we mentioned, but in the end, you do not benefit from anything because you simply do not use the NVIDIA graphics card that you own. The reason for this is often because the graphics unit integrated into the processor is the default GPU for the laptop and for all installed applications.

To control this, head to the Nvidia Control Panel, then choose 3D Settings from the side menu. Here you can modify all settings of programs that need graphic processing, including design programs. You can specify which graphics card is used for all applications, or define special rules for each application, including internal settings.
